Jesus’ body is taken by Joseph of Arimathea. He and Nicodemus bury Jesus with a great deal of spice and in the Jewish custom. On Sunday morning Mary Magdalene sees that the stone sealing the tomb has been moved and his body is gone. She runs to Peter and the other disciple. They see the empty tomb, one goes in, and one believes. They go to their homes. Mary stays and meets the risen Jesus. Mary tells the disciples that she has seen the Lord. |

John 20.19-21.8 |
On Sunday evening, Jesus appears in the locked room where the disciples are hiding. He blesses them, breathes on them, and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Thomas was not there and says he will not believe unless he sees Christ’s wounds. That happens a week later when Jesus again appears. Verse 30 explains why this gospel was written. Jesus reveals himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias (Galilee). They are fishing and not catching anything. When Jesus comes there, they do not recognize him until he instructs them to cast the net again and there is (another) miraculous catch of fish. |

John 21.9-Acts 1.5 |
Jesus has made them breakfast. Then Jesus questions Peter about his love. The Lord says, “Tend my sheep,” “Feed my sheep” and “Follow me.” Jesus reveals how Peter will suffer in the future. Peter asks about the disciple who has written this gospel. Acts of the Apostles opens with the information that Jesus remained with the apostles for forty days before the ascension. |
