Psalm 77 (in this week's lectionary readings) reminds of six important characteristics about our heavenly Father:
1. He Hears and Answers Our Cries
2. He Invites Us to Remember His Faithfulness
3. He Reveals His Holiness
4. He Demonstrates Mighty Power
5. He Redeems and Guides Like a Shepherd
6. He Comforts Us with His Presence
When today’s troubles blur our hope, God calls us to rehearse His past deliverances. Recalling “wonders of old” refuels our trust. V. 11. In our darkest moments—when anguish robs us of sleep—God still inclines His ear to our plea. He doesn’t wait until we have it all together; He meets us in our rawest need. V.1. By reminding us of His utter otherness (shown in His pure, incorruptible nature) and His capacity to intervene in any circumstance (evidenced by His powerful exploits in nature declare), He reassures us about His promises and His ability to keep them. Vv. 13 -14. Even when we can’t “see” His footprints, His Spirit sustains and comforts us, offering peace that transcends understanding. V. 2.
As you confront trouble, anxiety and doubt, draw comfort and encouragement from these words from the Psalms.
